I sort of came at it the other way. I hit Secondary school, and had no idea how to fit in at all. It was a tough learning experience, but I learned how to fit in with most groups, because "myself" didn't fit in at all, because I hadn't really developed any sense of self. So I became a sort of social chameleon. I wouldn't say I was popular, but I had a lot of friends, but then you leave school, hit college, and realise you'd have to go through it all again, and that's when I realised that it was a shallow pursuit, and knew enough to make a select few friends I enjoyed the company of.

So there's been this techno festival right next to my dorm the entire day... so much for enjoying a peaceful summer day?

Anytime near or around the 4th of July is guaranteed to be loud and abrasive. I don't know what to tell you, man.

Move to the UK *nod*. The only difference is you'll have to put up with them on 5th November. We celebrate a terrorist who tried to blow up our parliament. True story.

They were until 1776, when America declared F for freedom. And also farenheit.

Reality check; a few hundred years from now, most of us are never going to be remembered. We'll be records in a computer, writing on a gravestone, words in an archive. A lucky few of us will find some way of contributing and be remembered, but most of us will be long-forgotten.

As Ethy said, life's too short, and it's certainly too short to give a damn about how popular you are. All the popular kids I knew at school who everyone looked up to threw their lives away for popularity. Popularity is fleeting, and misleading. It makes us feel like we belong, or that we're worth something, but true worth comes from finding our own worth. Not by the worth determined by others.

And fame can come from after death. Nobody would have remembered Buren Skeen, Friday Hassler, or Ricky Knotts if it weren't for their deaths.

Who?
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.
