The heavily abridged version is that the NSG thread that become the original Eternal Thread was titled to the effect of "Kitsylvania's a GUY?!", referring to said well-known user back then who most people assumed from the name was a female player. So a thread that started to meander and became basically a chat thread ended up left alone. It got up around 3000 or so pages if I recall right before it was pruned as part of our largely futile triage efforts to try and keep the original server barely functioning, and was also the cause for the pre-Jolt forum's 55 page cap (also to try and keep the server from imploding.)
