Here in the Netherlands we also have more than a few NIMBY-screaming malcontents when it comes to wind farms. It is unacceptable to let these people stand in the way of the Greater Good, of course.

In Germany, we call them Bavarians.

Though in their defense, they're protesting the building of an electrical grid. But only through Bavaria. They're fine with most of it going through other states so long as they get the link to the northern windfarms.

I wouldn't be here if I hadn't overheard two friends talking about it and then making it sound much more interesting than it actually is.

So what if the production and installation costs outweigh the energy bill savings? Definitely a problem in such far north places as Europe.

Conservative logic. I do assume Bavaria didn't suddenly develop a predilection for social democrats in recent years.

Bavarian logic, really, There's been no predilection for the christian democrats either, it's just the christian socialists and their ramped up bullshit that they like to push on the nation to score cheap points with the Bavarian Stammtische.

One company here has solar panel calculator where you can estimate on costs and savings and I think that sort of estimate was given. Of course during the winter it needs to be supported with something else.

Are subsidies and externalities included in that calculation? Moreover, is it useful for calculating across multiple jurisdictions where production costs and subsidies will be different?
