Here we just have schools.

Irish secondary schools tend to be single sex, yeah. Fallback from when it was the church that primarily ran the education system.

Aye, it was weird for me at first, too. It's easy to forget that before joining the EEC Ireland was just a piss-poor former colony that couldn't afford to provide essential services without the Vatican. S'why the church got so ingrained in society.
