My gut reaction is to celebrate, because of course I think that discriminating on the grounds of sexual orientation is abhorrent, and a human rights abuse.

However, I actually share the concerns of John Roberts and Antonin Scalia in that while this is a positive thing for gay people, it does represent yet another example in which the Supreme Court are perverting the course of American democracy through judicial review, and whilst I am aware that this is exactly what it was supposed to do, it does leave the door open to unintended negative consequences on other issues.

Basically, this is a great day for human rights, but a terrible day for democracy and political freedom, and as such I feel very bittersweet about this.

Then I suppose American democracy has been perverted since 1803.

Afaik, the US has actually beat Ireland in giving all of the federal benefits (where as Ireland allowed the marriages to happen first)

Having harmless and relatively consensual sex with an animal is legal in some places. I say "relative consensual", because even if the animal in question is not actively resisting, it's still a sapient being having intercourse with a non-sapient being that does not and cannot understand concept as we understand it.
