Lancaster of Wessex wrote:Congratulations America for focusing a bit more on what your politics has said since your inception: "That all men are created equal."

"I think the authors of that notable instrument (The Declaration of Independence) intended to include all men, but they did not mean to declare all men equal in all respects. They did not mean to say all men were equal in color, size, intellect, moral development, or social capacity. They defined with tolerable distinctness in what they did consider all men created equal,—equal in certain inalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This they said, and this they meant. They did not mean to assert the obvious untruth that all were then actually enjoying that equality, or yet that they were about to confer it immediately upon them. In fact, they had no power to confer such a boon. They meant simply to declare the right, so that the enforcement of it might follow as fast as circumstances should permit." -Abraham Lincoln

Many of the Founding Fathers would have been disappointed.

They'd still be getting over their heart attacks from finding out there's a black President from a mixed race couple, I think I can live with their disappointment on a few things.

So let them be. If they start rotating in their graves over this, we can use them for energy production and reduce America's environmental footprint that way.

That last one is probably coming in a little bit. Another decade or so. But that's a different matter altogether.

Why so glum, friend? Today is a day of celebration, of a general "good" to be uttered by the heterosexual American population while they go about their business! Wild cheers by everybody else, too.

Why do I feel glum? Because its the destruction of all my views on families and marriage.

I think Washington and Jefferson would be fine with it. Very different reasons, though.

Besides, let them have their fun before the reality sets in and we get a repeat of the church shooting or something targeting GLBT people.

As expected.

Still, there's legislature to be put into place in the remaining holdout states, Church protests to take place and disperse, firebombings to hopefully not happen but probably will. It's sure for this to incite a lot of hatred against the LGBT population, as glorious a victory it is.

That's what I said, but that doesn't mean they can't celebrate. Deep down, they know there's still more to do. Even one person on this thread posted as such already.

This might not bode well for the Democrats in '16.... However beneficial such rulings may be (in the eyes of some) the people haven't been able to decide about whether they approve of this social change (there has been no referendum) and the electorate might not accept being sidelined in this manner. This might lead to a serious backlash and a Republican victory in '16.

Your views haven't been destroyed. The First Amendment still exists.

This is the 2nd Roe v Wade of judicial activism. There is nothing remotely in the US constitution which specifies that gay marriage is a protected right. All marriage used to be under the purview of the states.

Yeah, I went through that too. It's a difficult period, be sure about that. But from the ashes shall be rebuilt a glorious empire of inclusiveness and equality. Think of it as messing up your bed in your sleep, to make it better in the morning than it was when you went in.

And so ends the very moral fabric of the United States, and the world in general. May God have mercy on us all, for Satan and his ilk will have none.

Oh, how I wish the South had the gumption to secede right now...I'd leave at the tip of a hat.

Considering you can still marry the way you want and still have a family the way you want (well you and your spouse) I fail to see how it destroys either.

You could always leave the United States yourself.

Then again, the very moral fabric of the world's gone, so I guess Antarctica is your only hope.

What a stupid reason to leave the US.
