And let them deny gay marriages? No, they should stay here where we can make sure they can't oppress their minorities.

I just find it funny some states are passing "preacher protection acts" or something to that effect, meaning you can't force the religious figures to perform the ceremony for the happy couple.

I approve from a personal liberty standpoint, a negative liberty like that doesn't really harm anyone, probably just an inconvenience because the closest preacher doesn't wanna wed a few people.

They're pointless laws as no church has ever been forced to perform a wedding that they do not wish to perform.

I can agree to that. States pass a lot of pointless laws like that when the feds do something equally stupid or pointless. if it spreads hate and discontent, well at least I get a chuckle out of it when fights break out over "issues" like this.

And that's how some Christians cherrypick when it comes to same-sex marriage being a sin but can justify divorcing their spouse regardless of what Scripture may say.

It's a fund raising move. They pass or introduce a bill like that, put it in a mailer and tell dumbasses that they're 'protecting godfearing folk from the gays, send money.'

Does "religious figure" extend to the religious civil servants who dislike the idea of formally registering a gay marriage ?

Unless some ordained minister decided to work for .gov then no, hell I would argue they don't have the right to do that anyways, they lose it when they take a government check.

That was actually the subject of an anime. A God was cast down to Earth. He has superpowers, but nobody believes in him, which makes him feel depressed all the time. And despite his godly powers, he can neither get anybody to believe he's a god, or get a job. He's essentially God if he was a worthless bum.

I forget the title. I'll get back to you on that. Gonna have to ask my RL friend.

More gay divorces, and more straight divorces by homophobes who refuse to be married if Gays can get married.

It's win-win for them.

I honestly can't see why anyone would get married nowadays anyways, at least when when we're talking about the arrangement with the state in your personal life.

But the idea that your sacred institution isn't sacred anymore when anyone can have it is just hilarious to me.

reminds me of one guy's argument against gay marriage was that he didn't wanna see their PDA.

As someone who considers PDA obnoxious in general, I say we just outlaw all marriage by that logic.
