2060? How would you know? It might be unmanned. We have drones. We have lawn mowers that are unmanned. Why not farming machines?

They'd take longer than that to develop drones with their anti-industrialist attitude delaying technological advancement.

You have to teach people how to manufacture and program these machines. Slavery would be convenient even then.

See, you think slavery just means hard labor. It hardly does. Greek teachers were slaves, too, during the Roman Empire/Republic.

Are you seriously arguing that slave owners wouldn't create manufacturing plants and place slaves to work in those manufacturing plants?

Firstly, most drones are still manned in some form.
Secondly, "unmanned" equipment isn't unbreakable. It still needs people to repair it.

Yes changes happen, changes that would probably make slavery less profitable. But there are almost always going to be ways to turn a profit by owning someone. So sure slavery may decrease in value, but that doesn't mean it is going away just because technology changes.

So you share Lee's views on slavery -- "it's evil, but let's go ahead and let it stay around another few centuries. What's the rush about getting rid of it?"

You have moved the goalposts from originally saying slavery would be gone by now to arguing that it would end in the mid- to late 21st century.

What's more mind boggling is that he thinks that slavery would simply end with advances in technology.

Slavery is highly profitable because it's basically free human capital (not really free, because you have to take care of their needs, but relatively free); so I sincerely doubt it'd have ended with changes in technology.

Yes but you don't have a drone crew to do it. Most likely two or three people that would fix it, and wouldn't be going through the same pain as slaves since they wouldn't have as dangerous work.
