I do wonder why NS has such a relatively large trans community. It certainly seems so to me. Perhaps it says something positive about this place.

I've been battling with my identity and with the nature of why do I like to wear women's clothing so much. It has reached the point that I realized through meditation that I've been a fraud to myself only held back by my shoulders preventing the full transformation. I've had this gender identity issue for years to the point I've played as female characters whenever possible for the last 13 years in video games and was living vicariously through my avatars.

Commander Anastasia Shepard is currently being her own woman and taking no crap from others.

True, I just see it more easy to express when appearance isn't necessarily factored in, like, for the most part online, I don't even mention it, and I get by pretty well, right?
I don't really have a vehicle for that yet, like, school is online and no work yet. If I get one of the officey jobs I'm in process for atm, like, I think it'll be easier, coworkers ask you out for drinks after work and the like.

It's because you're not worrying about your appearance, and people like you because you're a likeable person. As they would in real life, if you too, didn't worry about your appearance when you spoke to people. Not that you have any reason to worry, in my view, but you understand what I'm saying, I hope.

I'm certainly not like most people. I wasn't born this way. To put it mostly simply, it's been the result of long-term, serious disenfranchisement with male culture and expectations. I'm a person who's chosen the life, more or less. That's another part of the reason why I feel especially "vulnerable", for a lack of a better word, and lack the motivation to do too much with myself. I'm not like other transgenders and they'd probably look down on me for making them look bad.

Have you considered that the reason you find it difficult to make friends is because he's putting it in your mind that you don't look like who you are? Y'know, sometimes, when I see so many transgenders and LGBT's in NS, I think that not they are the minority on NS, and that the heterosexuals are the minority. But that's just me.

Nah. TET in particular is LGBT heavy, but the site as a whole is most certainly majorly heterosexual.

What I will never stop finding amusing though is NSG having more MTF women than cisgender women.

Like I've said, I'd like to consider myself just as woman as a cisgender woman, even if I don't yet have all the right pieces, doesn't stop me from being much different from women in personality

That's the interesting thing about masculinity, it's far more heavily tied up with things like sexuality and "not being different" in a way that femininity just isn't. There has, after all, been the tomboy for a long time but there is no, say, tomgirl.

I know. But there's no getting away from him for more than a few hours. Even then, what am I to do? I've enough money to make it downtown and back but then I won't be able to do anything there.

You don't need that sort of negative influence in your life, but that's just my humble opinion. He doesn't sound like the most encouraging of people.

Being a political forum, I'd like to think that it attracts a certain level of intellect, and that it's that general lack of ignorance which is what makes NS a more welcoming and diverse place.

I have to disagree there.

I think NSG* attracts a lot of ignorance. It's just that it's generally exploratory ignorance. Back when "piss off, you child" was such a popular sentiment the point lost on its proponents was that NSG* is largely a place where people figure out their thoughts on matters. The interactions of new members who hold new (and, often, extreme**) ideas with longer term members and how ideas are wielded in the so-called "marketplace of ideas" is actually a really important part of the formulation of more deeply held positions. This is one reason why people often change a lot to external viewers. But this whole process is really founded upon an initial state of ignorance, and it is that NSG invites discussion on these issues and that it does so in a context where you get first-hand voices and a mixture of familiarity with the ideas that yields the impression.

Obviously some people aren't so ignorant. These are people who have been around a bit longer or have joined from other places. Just, in general, anyone who isn't starting out.

*We have been talking about NS. Here I talk about NSG because I do not feel that an interpretation based solely on NSG can be used to generalise to NS as a whole. For instance, most Generalites don't bother with A&F let alone, say, Raiding and Defending.

I believe it is more common once old societal habits are removed. As I've become more separated from high school in my rural conservative hometown the more I've become what I am today. Simply, I became reclusive after graduating high school out of fear that people would discover my crossdressing habit. However, my training tempts me to go to Iowa as the state legalized same-sex marriage well before Michigan did and there's more % of GDP in manufacturing in Iowa than Michigan shockingly enough. That and my love of meteorology and storm chasing would be a lot easier there than in Michigan.
