NS is pretty liberal (lower-case L, not to be confused with the political movement of Liberalism).

I'm actually not too broken up about my weight. I've actually gotten slimmer recently, but I still have lumps on my chest that make me have odd positive feelings.

Funny story, I've only played as male characters twice in RPGs, once just cause I wanted to see if I could do the gay Shephard romance in ME3, and once with a friend in FNV, where I didn't want to out myself, or at least I feared I would. The Serbian Empire wrote:Lordieth wrote:I do wonder why NS has such a relatively large trans community. All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

I'm certainly not like most people. I wasn't born this way. To put it mostly simply, it's been the result of long-term, serious disenfranchisement with male culture and expectations. I'm a person who's chosen the life, more or less. That's another part of the reason why I feel especially "vulnerable", for a lack of a better word, and lack the motivation to do too much with myself. I'm not like other transgenders and they'd probably look down on me for making them look bad.

True, I just see it more easy to express when appearance isn't necessarily factored in, like, for the most part online, I don't even mention it, and I get by pretty well, right?Lordieth wrote:Not every forum is as tolerant and accepting as NS is.Auremena wrote:Think it's the internet in general. You're a nice person, Aure. I don't think making friends is your problem. There are plenty of people out there who would accept you for who you are. Perhaps a little harder to find, but they do exist. I'd have given up long ago if I thought all people were selfish, careless beings.

It could say that it is just less harmful than everywhere else. That's not a positive about NS it's a negative for everywhere else.
It could be that NS is just the internet's equivalent of the quiet little seat in the back of the library that no-one notices and no-one remembers. That's not really a positive either. In this view, NS is basically this place where people can retreat and ignore the real world. Actually that makes it more like a negative.
But, really, I would argue that people who are marginalised and are made to feel it find an apolitical lifestyle or a politically apathetic one harder to maintain. In this idea, NS is the intersection of a) young, b) doesn't have an established political channel and c) political, where b) is subject to some influence of those first two points. This has been extensively argued as a negative too, but explains the relatively large size of the trans community by the simple fact that your baseline appears to be the general population.

I've noticed more than a few coming to the realisation after joining NS. Barring some of them just saying it for attention and acceptance (I'd like to believe people aren't that low), it adds the question if transgender is more common than thought when societal old habits are removed.

Again, probably a function of youth. That's the interesting thing about masculinity, it's far more heavily tied up with things like sexuality and "not being different" in a way that femininity just isn't. There has, after all, been the tomboy for a long time but there is no, say, tomgirl.

I believe it is more common once old societal habits are removed. As I've become more separated from high school in my rural conservative hometown the more I've become what I am today. Simply, I became reclusive after graduating high school out of fear that people would discover my crossdressing habit. Then I became more comfortable with myself as I've matured and realized that if this was just a phase, I'd have moved on by now like what I did with 4chan.

I don't really have a vehicle for that yet, like, school is online and no work yet. If I get one of the officey jobs I'm in process for atm, like, I think it'll be easier, coworkers ask you out for drinks after work and the like.
