When we're into a couple of seasons or so, then we can see who's turned out better.

Oilers are so lucky that Katz finally decided to give a shit and let them get Chiarelli and McLellan, though. If MacT and Lowe were in charge, McDavid wouldn't even be a blip on the radar.

Edmonton trying to improve their ways is certainly something good in terms of progress for them. Good job on them for that. Now it's their time to gradually improve the squad with talent and assets they have. Can they do it?

I think this season will show what direction their team will go in the next few years. Chiarelli and McLellan are both unknown variables at this point.

But if they do improve, then so be it. But I reckon some will figure it to be tainted due to the circumstances. I mean, it's one thing to get it together and pull yourself out of the sewers, and another thing to do it by waiting until somebody else has given you enough handouts that you didn't deserve. Plus, it shows how Katz is a pretty calculating guy when it comes to making money. I mean, how many sports owners would kill for a situation like he's got for himself?

I would trade off some of their offensive talents for defensive and goaltending buildup. I believe Oilers need better defensemen than Ference and Smid.

Well, we both know they won't trade the draft lottery wins away. Who does that leave then for them to deal?

Chiarelli really ought to dangle one of them and see who bites. He's surely got to know that his position isn't entirely golden. Just because you have McDavid doesn't mean you have the league's respect.

Especially if he has a possibility of becoming the worst bust in the history of the National Hockey League. :p

You know Smid's been playing for Calgary for a while now...

But yeah, it'd be wise to sell some of their offensive talents off, considering how not even adding Sekera can do a goddamn blip on improving the Oilers defence.

Schultz was drafted by the Ducks. Schultz decides to not bother reporting with the Ducks, which irks the Ducks GM.

Ducks fans harbored plenty of resentment towards him. So much so that Nick Schultz got booed at one point.

Me personally, I find it funny how he ditched Anaheim for the Oilers of all teams.

 Nick Schultz getting booed.

Oilers gave him the most expensive contract with the added signing bonus, did they not? :p

I cribbed that from reading some old posts from years ago on a forum about it.

Speaking of which, here's one that defines the Ducks' fanbase's resentment towards him:

I don't think he really regrets passing on us, but I do think he wishes he would have signed with someone else.

I personally think he would be on our team. The pressure is getting to him (I ****ing love it), but I think he'd do better here. I think he'd be in over Vatanen. Oh well, I hope he becomes an AHL captain. Will continue to give him **** on his twitter until his traitor ass blocks me.

As for his contract (courtesy of an old NHL.com article):

Justin Schultz, 21 (although he turns 22 on Jul. 6), has agreed to terms on a two-year entry-level contract worth $925,000 with the Oilers -- he'll receive a $92,500 signing bonus and, if he hits all bonus marks, will be a worth a cap hit of $3.755 million US.

The Ducks are supposedly going to "re-assess" Boudreau's role with the team after their current road trip. So far it doesn't look good, but are we certain it's his fault?

Who do you think they should sell off?

One or two of Eberle, RNH or Hall would do the job imo. Yakupov's stock has dropped off to the point where he needs McDavid to boost his stocks up to be traded imho. It also doesn't help that Perron got traded earlier for dirt cheap....I haven't watched much of Oilers lately so it's hard to say.

Isn't a team only as good as its coach? Just hope they shake things up soon....

I think the fallout of this would be more interesting than the entire season/playoffs.

How fortunate it is for the first round pick to go to Edmonton, not Toronto.
