Wow. Not a good game. That was painful, and I'm not even a Preds fan.

Yep. Called it. But I don’t think the jets can beat the Knights. Too inconsistent.

Yeah the Atlanta Thrashers. They just beat the Preds in 7 games.

I am in an area where there is no hockey team. I didn't get to following again till the last 2 years after I found out one of my wife's friends is from NYC and a Rangers fan.

Ew. Rangers suck. Lundqvist is on a massive decline and should retire. The rest of the crew can't just do it together. Ew.

Heh, you say that like we even have a crew. More like 5 guys and an after school special

Less annoyed with the Preds crashing out but, as we all know, Pekka Rinne is too good right now.

Jarkoteknosko wrote:There goes my bracket.

Could be worse. After all, remember when UMBC beat Virginia at that March Madness thing (and probably not Loyola Chicago beating Miami as I've said at the start) and virtually everyone's brackets got ruined as a result? Still, if you want to take part in our bracket challenge, go ahead.

Anyway, time for my inaccurate-as-always predictions (apart from round one which I still think is a fluke):

Lightning vs Capitals: On the one hand, the Caps managed to fight hard against the Penguins and beat them for the first time in nearly two and a half decades, so it's highly likely that they keep this momentum going. On the other hand, the Bolts managed to breeze through their games against the Devils and the Bruins (barring those couple of stumbles), whereas the Caps kind of struggled against Columbus and struggled a bit less against Pittsburgh. So yes, my money's on Tampa.
Jets vs Golden Knights: Now this was a tough one. The Jets have a solid defence whereas the Golden Knights have solid depth. But I feel that the GKs will have the upper hand here. Again, Fleury's been a beast in between the pipes (barring that 4-0 loss to the Sharks) and the team generally feels like an all-star team that's been allowed to take part in the NHL.

Tampa in six, Vegas in seven. Now that's said, I'm looking forward to Winnipeg vs Washington in the Stanley Cup final.

In that case I would be shitting endless bricks hoping that the Thrashers get the win.

The Winnipeg Jets are not the Atlanta Thrashers. No more than the Coyotes are the Jets, or the Avs are the Nordiques, or the Hurricanes are the Whalers, or the Calgary Flames are the Atlanta Flames.

You can take the Thrashers out of Atlanta but you can't take the Thrashers out of the Thrashers.

I'm just glad I have people to watch hockey with now. And I've actually found a couple bars that show hockey games in the city of New Orleans.

You have no idea how happy this makes me seeing as I haven't been able to walk hockey for almost 10 years.

The Jets are not the Thrashers. Not in name, not in spirit, not in roster.

Uh, there’s like 5 thrashers still on the roster

There are four. And that's a very qualified four.

Byfuglien and Wheeler were both traded for. Byfuglien played in the Thrashers final season, after seven years in the Blackhawks system, and Wheeler played a paltry 23 games in blue and gold after the better part of three seasons with the Bruins.

Enstrom and Little were drafted by the Thrashers in '03 and '06 respectively, and are the only players left on the Jets to have played more than one season for the Thrashers. Really, they're the only Thrashers left in Winnipeg.

Two players - or four, if you want to stretch - does not a team make.

Winnipeg is a lovely place, with hundreds of kilometers of navigable water at its northern doorstep, and unlimited wilderness on those shores. I have friends in the southern villages of Manitoba, and they all play hockey,

Sad, truly.

Show me one region of the US where every hamlet and village is proud to have it's own youth hockey team.

Bah.

That was dirty, I don’t care what anyone says, intentionally pulling a guy down by his helmet is extremely dangerous.

But seriously, what the hell happened there, Tampa Bay?

Kunitz grabbed a dudes helmet straps from behind and yanked him to the ground by em. He only got a 2 minute minor for it, but he should have been ejected. That shits no joke you can wreck someone’s neck that way

He means most of the players in the roster are not from the Thrashers. Don't play with words here.
