Oh man... now Villa are definitely one of the three shittiest teams in the Premier League. We'd been kind of relying on Northern Circus FC being... well... you know... circus-y.

Why did you persist with Sherwood beyond the summer? Allardyce was there, for crying out loud.

Because we'd just be sacking him in 12 months anyway? I don't know. I don't even try to understand this club anymore.

It's true, Lerner does seem to have lost the plot. But everyone knows Sherwood is more ego than managerial talent.

I don't think it's anything to do with Lerner, for what it's worth. People keep saying this but it doesn't make sense. He's never really been all that involved in the actual decision making on the football side of things, it seems. He basically left O'Neill to make the football-related decisions (who then wasted his money) and after that, he brought in football people to advise, and got really careful with the money because he had to repair the financial damage. His only real mistake in that time was appointing McLeish (and only because it was obvious that would piss the fans off). Otherwise, he's saved this club from going the way of Leeds or Portsmouth, despite all the bullshit and massive losses he personally has absorbed. I'll not have a bad word said about the man.

Sherwood was always a gamble, though. Five months ago, it paid off. But I don't think anyone really thought past that. So now, he's in entirely different circumstances and doesn't seem experienced enough to know what to do. I think that's why he's been changing his squad so much. This in turn makes it harder for new players to settle. He just needs to figure out what he wants to do, and learn from the mistakes so far. And quickly. If he does that, we'll be okay. If not, he'll be gone by January, and we're probably going down.

Poor old Leeds, eh? Absolute nightmares for their fans.

Retracted.

Sherwood, from what I saw at Spurs and the limited amount I've seen at Villa, seems to be a 'bounce' manager. He provides oomph and enthusiasm and can get a team through the season like that with the squad operating on half speed. But he doesn't have the tactical knowledge or flexibility of mind to get anything more his players.

He definitely stepped up to the top table too soon, he needed longer as a youth coach and then as a lower league manager. I don't think he'll be in post beyond November, and at that point I don't know what your options will be.

A tasty all-northern European tie there as well as the toughest draw Ireland could've got.

Go Ukraine/Sweden/Bosnia/Hungary.

Not a proper Newcastle fan then. :p

1-1 against 10 man Rubin Kazan. Things must be very bad in Liverpool. I doubt that Klopp can fix it fast.
