Gonna go out on a limb here and say neither of you guys saw him much when he was at Villa.
Easily our best player while operating in the middle, and it's not like we had a shit squad at the time.

That was 6 years ago, though. I mean I saw bits and yeh he was good in there, but so far for Liverpool he has played best when he's been played further wide and when he's in the middle he moves out in that direction anyway.

I did think Rodgers brought him in to play as a wingback but I agree he's properly a box to box CM. Though he'd be a fantastic AM in a 4231 with two inside wingers, due to that ability to drift round.

Pretty sure that's more to do with Liverpool's system and personnel than Milner's actual ability. When he starts in that "holding" position, if he wants to push forward, he'd just be in the same space as Coutinho... so it makes sense to go wide when he wants to press forward. That's just a consequence of the system.

Either way, I imagine Klopp will like him in the middle, he's a sort of Gundogan Lite, IMO. Gundogan is more reliable positionally, but Milner is better defensively, I think. Only argument to play him wide is "we don't have better options" ... but you do.

Not surprised. Darlow's injured as well, so our options are really thin in goal. Is it Alnwick again?

Alnwick left for Port Vale on a free, according to Wiki.
A quick examination of the Newcastle players out on loan would reveal Freddie Woodman, at Crawley Town, to be who Callie is referring to, it seems.

Holy shit, so many first aid kits on the NUFC transfermarkt page...
Three fit CBs, one fit RB, no fit LBs, damn, like, you can't sack McClaren when you have that kind of a defense and reserve keepers as your only option, though I wouldn't be surprised if he's out by Christmas.
EDIT whoops four CBs, Coloccini's armband looked a lot like a first aid kit...

It is pretty shit.
Basically, our goalie line-up consists of Rob Elliot and then youth players, including Freddie Woodman.

Reading about the City match, a youth RB started then had to come off due to injury.
