Low actually complained about the Tournament expansion, claiming that it "allows weaker teams to join and enabling them to play boring, defensive football."

I do agree with him, but it does open up for other nations to make an important tournament.
I dunno, Iceland-Hungary, especially the last 20 minutes or so, held my attention very well.
But Austria though, it looks like even Northern Ireland could have been up 3-0 on them right now. Almer is pretty much the only Austrian paying any attention, or they'd easily be down.

I guess it just changes what kind of tournament it is. In prior editions, most groups were very hard - top teams would face each other from the first match onward and there weren't many easy games. You fucked up in a game, you were probably out. In this tournament getting three points gives you a good chance to progress and it doesn't really get serious until the quarter-finals. As an example, here is a hypothetical course for Germany to win, assuming they get first place in their group:

Ukraine -> Poland -> Northern Ireland -> Iceland -> Italy -> France -> Spain

They are some tough matches later on, but there are some pretty easy ones early. In 2012 Germany was in a group with Denmark, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Belgium did what they had to do, but it still worries me a bit that all the goals were on counter attacks. That's a whole different game then scoring against a concrede double-defence line what we've seen so often in this tournament.
On the other hand, thus far only Spain an Belgium managed to demolisch such a defensive block with three goals.

Portugal was a big dissapointment thus far. It's Ronaldo with a bunch of mediocre players. Italy put themselves in the spotlights with a very strong organisation and has become a serious contender for winning the tournament. England has a very decent team, but this tournament seems to come a few years to early. Keep an eye on them in the next decade!
France is still the top-candidate if you ask me. Spain has been put away too quickly aftert their glorious defeat against the Netherlands on the world cup. They are still one of the best teams ever. Germany seems not solid enough, but still, it is Germany after all.

I was thinking, Italy is topping the group whatever it may happen, so we could just let Ireland win some 10-0 so to repay the Swedes for their famous "Nordic victory" with Denmark. Catholic victory! ;)

Our football pundits have been thinking the same thing since the third Belgian goal. "Since they're gonna top the table any way, maybe Italy will rest some players, take it easy on us, we might have a chance"

Hope springs eternal.

Rose and Walker off for Clyne and Bertrand? Taking off probably your two best performers, and you're not yet guaranteed to go through. Wales can easily beat Russia with the latter underperforming, and Slovakia could just as well beat England. Boom. Third place. The possibility of not moving on. Is Roy like oh it's like an 80% chance even if we lose to go through at this point so we might as well walk it in.

Slovakia played poorly just for the draw. Who puts 5 at the back? Not very sportsmanlike.

Wales? Any team that plays with 3 central defenders and two wingbacks/fullbacks?

Also, it's still sporting, just a little boring.

In the last fifteen minutes Slovakia pulled back midfielders to block the box, that's a little different than the Welsh formation, it was literally building a human shield in front of the box so no one could get in. It's boring and takes some sport out of the game. Oh well.
