The whole "secessionism at any cost" thing tends to turn off socially liberal voters though, and that's the thing that the Bloc harps on more than anything else.

Now the Liberal candidate is winning by just 4 votes.

Why so we can pretend to be one of the cool kids? Canada's military wouldn't be able to hold off any one of the guys who might want to grab a piece of our territory for even a day. And our navy's patrols of the Arctic are less than a joke to Russia with their 55+ nuclear subs. The reality is that no matter who decides to invade us we're screwed if the US doesn't help out.

Tell me more about how significant of a contribution we made to the last two major wars.Napkiraly wrote:And yes, we do need a military.

I mean it's not like we historically were very active in peacekeeping and lately have played a major role in Afghanistan. There's also the fact that we have to contribute to NATO, and really only Iceland has an excuse to not really have any military (plus their inclusion is due to strategic considerations).

Juno Beach, The Battle of the Atlantic. The, quite frankly, mammoth contributions of money, material, and personnel to military forces and civilian population in Europe. Canada was a major part of the Allied victory during WWII.
[EDIT] And the only reason that we don't have nuclear subs is because the US cock-blocked our purchase back when. Besides which, military strength is not a great indicator of power anymore.

What are your laws (if any) concerning run-offs?

You missed another event Cami. We liberated all of the Netherlands by ourselves in WW2. Also, we sort of took on both Croatian and Serbian militias at the same time in the Medak Pocket at one point in the fight.
