NDP would have won, even if the PC's had joined the Wild Rose. The WR were just a little too gaffe/crazy prone for most to trust them. Plus, the NDP ran one hell of a campaign.

Conservatives in Ontario, at least in my experience and from what I've seen, tend to be more Red Tory than the Reform kind of Tory. And Harper's majority showed that it was the Reform Party in all but name.

As for this "balanced budget" fallacy, a balanced budget really means a stagnant economy. You can't grow without controlled spending.

Oh it's a fallacy now? So tell me when do you feel better - when you have $$$ in your pocket or when the bank keeps sending you angry letters with red text? Controlled spending is when you're spending within your limits, not when you're enslaved to the bank till your 40s.

Countries are not people, if you think they're the same then you seriously need to learn more about how the world works.

BRICS is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa

Now tell me how many of these guys are achieving their economic growth through deficits and putting their country billions in the hole. What about France, Germany, South Korea? All strong economies and none have achieved that status by taking on debt. Controlled spending is a fallacy people use to justify buying goodies for their generation and then piling all the responsibility of paying for it onto their children and grandchildren.

BRICS don't need to spend because they currently have trade surpluses, for the most part. Thanks to Harper's policies Canada is currently in a trade deficit... so trade can't bring us up to a good economy again.

As for the other countries' deficits, France has EUR 82 billion ($93 billion USD) and S. Korea has KRW 386 trillion ($321 billion USD).

Because of a lack of controlled spending over the past decade, Harper has foisted an infrastructure and social deficit on future generations. Now we're forced to play catch-up!

Yes to the weed, Liberals have a mixed history when it comes to military spending. But I reckon that even if there is a drop (which I honestly don't think there will be, or at least nothing significant) it's better than what it'd be under the NDP. I do hope Trudeau raises the amount we spend as a % of GDP. At least get closer to hitting 2% than we are now.

Agreed. That looks to be the case in my riding, which has the Liberals leading after the Conservatives owned it for over 15 years. Fingers crossed it turns Liberal tonight.
