And now I, the hapless American, will have to start watching it.

It's on American Netflix, I believe (all the way from the beginning).

On it's ninth season now. CBC does great period-pieces.

We deserve our own nukie subs. :(

But then we could assert a degree of de facto sovereignty over the Arctic, which would make it more difficult for the USA to claim any oilfields that might be trapped under the ice. And lord knows the US can't let their staunchest ally benefit, when they could simply steal it from under their nose.

It's ironic that it actually started as a City TV domestic production, then they cancelled it and CBC kept it going

I think it's a bit out of their latest episode, which should have aired tonight. Not entirely sure though.

USA only has some legitimacy in the Arctic because of Alaska. Greedy bastards. Sod off, you get enough from the Dakotas, Mid-West and Alaska while we only have the Prairies.

Yeah. It's even more stupid when you consider just how much of the Arctic is actually under our control. You'd think they'd let up a bit due to Russian aggression.

That's one thing I'll give Harper credit for, asserting our Arctic sovereignty.

Except that, without those icebreakers he keeps promising, there really isn't much was can do to assert that sovereignty.

You mean the déluge when Trudeau puts us neck-deep into debt again after Harper barely dug us out? All that infrastructure he's planning to renovate is going to be falling apart again 10 years later and we're not gonna have a penny left to fix that. The most important part of government is the system by which it generates cash, because that allows you to invest that cash in building the country.

If you're trying to build the country with cash you don't actually possess, then trying to pay that back using a cash-generation system that's broken because you're in debt...then your next stop is Screwedland. I don't for one second believe that Turdeau is going to follow through on his promise of balancing the budget in 2019.

For example Obama's policy has been to try and spend his way out of an economic slowdown and guess where the US is now? That's right, deeper in debt than ever. Of course the US has the world's largest military and attracts the most investment, so their creditors can't really do shit..except wait for the US's interest payments to be larger than China's entire defence budget.

Ontario - another genius example of trying to spend your way out of a broken economic system. In debt? You betcha. Ontario's load is now the largest of any sub-sovereign borrower and more than double that of California, USA's largest state.

You realize that Harper's plan was the same as Obama's, right? The Economic Action Plan was government spending out of an economic slowdown... because that's what economics says: When the private side of the economy shrinks, the government side needs to grow to ensure the economy doesn't collapse.

As for this "balanced budget" fallacy, a balanced budget really means a stagnant economy. You can't grow without controlled spending.

Absolute nonsense.
