You mean the déluge when Trudeau puts us neck-deep into debt again after Harper barely dug us out? All that infrastructure he's planning to renovate is going to be falling apart again 10 years later and we're not gonna have a penny left to fix that. The most important part of government is the system by which it generates cash, because that allows you to invest that cash in building the country.

If you're trying to build the country with cash you don't actually possess, then trying to pay that back using a cash-generation system that's broken because you're in debt...then your next stop is Screwedland. I don't for one second believe that Turdeau is going to follow through on his promise of balancing the budget in 2019.

For example Obama's policy has been to try and spend his way out of an economic slowdown and guess where the US is now? That's right, deeper in debt than ever. Of course the US has the world's largest military and attracts the most investment, so their creditors can't really do shit..except wait for the US's interest payments to be larger than China's entire defence budget.

Ontario - another genius example of trying to spend your way out of a broken economic system. In debt? You betcha. Ontario's load is now the largest of any sub-sovereign borrower and more than double that of California, USA's largest state.

Which is the best approach to be honest. Try to negotiate the bad aspects as best you can, rather than scrap the whole thing. Only scrap if absolutely necessary.

And yeah, Obama is closer to the Liberal Party (though the Grits are more to the left than he is, generally speaking). IIRC didn't some of his advisers join Trudeau's campaign team? Or at least two of them have expressed support for Trudeau becoming PM.

Especially because scrapping it entirely would have massively negative effects on Canada. Getting cut out of the TPP could very well be worse than getting shafted by joining it.

This'll be when the election is more or less decided, when they're done. Unless it's incredibly tight in Ontario.

CSPAN 2 is CBC live. The only way I knew it would be on was the 1995 Quebec referendum was on CSPAN 2.

They do not support Canada's military. That can be seen with how hard they hit veterans. They care in the sense of buying more equipment, but give jack shit once you're out.

As I said previously, the person I know who has close ties to the military says a lot of personnel fucking hate Harper right now.

We've also seen spending on defence as % of GDP drop under him. We've hardly kept up to where we were before.

You realize that Harper's plan was the same as Obama's, right? The Economic Action Plan was government spending out of an economic slowdown... because that's what economics says: When the private side of the economy shrinks, the government side needs to grow to ensure the economy doesn't collapse.

As for this "balanced budget" fallacy, a balanced budget really means a stagnant economy. You can't grow without controlled spending.
