Wait wait wait wait. You can just turn in your paper empty, it's compulsory to just show up, as far as I know.

Well, that much is obvious. But spoiling your ballot still counts as turnout.

Yes. But that counts in the turnout.

AKP voters generally vote consistently. It's the opposition that fails to vote, most of the time. That's why the AKP regularly polls (polled?) around 21 million votes, regardless of percentage.

Er, yes. The penalty for not voting is 10,000 liras ($3,759).

Did they punish the 25% that didn't vote in the presidential elections?

No idea, truth be told. But no doubt that voting is compulsory affects turnout in a positive way.

Also, poll update!

As of 20:35 (GMT+2):

Turnout: ~90%

AKP: 41,67% - 262 seats
CHP: 25,18% - 130 seats
MHP: 16,76% - 83 seats
HDP: 11,82% - 76 seats

(AA)

According to the state agency AA, the AKP is dropping steadily.

Bah, the AKP and CHP are fluctuating between 262-263 and 129-130 seats all the time, respectively. I'm not able to keep up with it, so it might be different from what you see.

Armenian genocide totally didn't happen though. Seriously!

Left-wing nationalim used to exist and it was not that rare in history. Usually I would support the MHP in this election since they would be in favour of restoring Turkeys old borders thus creating Natural Turkey.

"Turkey's old borders"? What the fuck? If anything, the Greeks should be allowed and encouraged to move back to their homelands in Constantinople/Istanbul, Smyrna/Izmir, Trabazond, Pontus, Cappadocia, Aegean Turkey, etc. And the Greeks should at least get Eastern Thrace and Pontus back; or perhaps Greece and Turkey should go back to the old borders of Greece (which included the Aegean coast).

I hope the CHP and HDP can form a coalition and form a government. Perhaps all of the opposition parties could join together and form a coaltion. Additionally; Turkey desperately needs to join the EU to prevent the further Islamisation of Turkey's secular state. I hope the CHP and other parties would be in support of that.

Sadly, no chance of that. MHP voters would rather die than accept coalition with HDP

I doubt that the borders would change anyway. But I'm glad that we agree about Greeks moving back. I think diversity is a good thing too. :)

The Greeks and the Turks lived side-by-side for hundreds of years; why can't they do it again? The Greeks have a very rich culture; and when/of Turkey joins the EU, the Freedom of Movement would likely encourage some Greeks to move back to Turkey.

Let's not derail the thread, please, folks. Don't want mod intervention.

Time for another poll update. The political climate in Turkey is changing.

As of 20:46 (GMT+2):

Turnout: ~90%

AKP: 41,51% - 261 seats
CHP: 25,25% - 130 seats
MHP: 16,72% - 84 seats
HDP: 11,95% - 75 seats

They most likely won't vote for AKP and significantly lowering their votes.

Not so odd, when you consider the Kurdish votes in the East and Southeast.

They did good. While I wasn't one of them, I appreciate the HDP and their efforts. They are, no doubt, the party that deserves every vote they got, thanks to their effort. Congratulations to them. The winner of this election is no doubt the HDP and the people they represent.

As they should. A pity that there won't be a coherent government though.
