Would Tibetan Buddhism be its own variation of Buddhism, or would its schools (Gelug, Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya) qualify as seperate enough to be their own, not under the umbrella of Tibetan Buddhism?

Raised Theravada, turned away from it in my teens but still like a lot of the ideas. Now I'm getting into Vajrayana (don't really believe much of it but it interests me to no end).

Buddhism is a neat religion that promotes a degree of balance, simplicity, and a lack of fundamentalism in any society. I can respect that. However, I laugh at the kale eating, cross fit loving San Francisco/Seattle 20 somethings who adhere to buddhism because "it's like, totes peaceful and eastern man." Fuck those people.

I've found that the westerners who are so often accused of ruining Buddhism tend to be more true to Buddhism than most Asian Buddhists.

Not really an expert in Tibetan, but as long they follow the concept of a Dalai Lama, they are Tibetan.

How we view gay marriage? It is a good topic since no teaching from Buddha says about gay activities, just "No sexual misconduct". The Dalai Lama thinks this pillar includes gay activities. As well as some Theravada schools in Sri Lanka. I, personally, interpret that pillar includes gay marriage, but I'm nice to LGBTQ+ .

Buddhism usually isn't for sexual activities because its deemed as a distraction, a desire from enlightenment or a temptation by Mara or smth.
