So the Senate has voted against the extension. What's the chance that this is political brinksmanship, and they'll squeeze the government for concessions before agreeing to pass the thing at the eleventh hour? Such games of political chicken have happened in the recent past, after all.

I know some of my homies in North Korea will be happy about this. If I lived in the USA I wouldn't be too happy about it though.

Hopefully that's sarcasm, but in case it's not, it's known full well that the PA had little functional use in anti-terror operations, and was realistically just a domestic control program.

Thank charity. This has been long overdue.

I would also like to remind everyone of THIS.

Thank fucking God. If you were wondering what it would take to make me say the sentence "Rand Paul is a goddamn hero," this is it.

THANK YOU RAND PAUL.

Mitch McConnell is incapable of working in the best interests of the American people, but fortunately, the power of the tyrants seems lower now than a few years ago.

Fucking finally. I guess people finding out how much this bill violating several of our rights was enough to get the tea party and Democrats to work together. I still pretty cynical however, I feel a midnight deal on the 31st will kill my dreams of not having this shit law in place.

This news does excite me, but I smell the smell of another midnight compromise on the horizon.

Pretty sure they want something similar in Britain, and as another user said, they might just actually get it. Well done to the yanks for getting rid of it though.

About damn time. I'm also pleased that it's Rand that help block the extension of the Patriot Act. More reason to vote for him. :)
Humans are monsters, we will never change, we will always want to claw out the throats of those with a difference in opinion, we will never be in an age of peace because of our lust for war, poverty will continue to exist as long as monetary needs exist. We rape, enslave, and conquer with no regards to others. We live by the sword, and we will, justifiably, die by the sword.

Hope is for unrealistic idealists. Pessimism is your friend.

In 3 days on May 31, the Senate will vote a final time to extend the Patriot Act. We're so close!!

Also, to those NSG members who favor the USA FREEDOM Act, you may have been misled. The bill's a de facto re-authorization of the Patriot Act and actually expands its powers. Don't believe everything the politicians are saying. They're all bad bills. I hope they all fail.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Though I worry over premature celebration, I am concerned over something sneaking through on the thirty-first. I know it's quaint, but I'd urge everyone in the States to mail and/or call their senator and representative to urge them to reject any last-minute fuckery McConnell tries to push through.
