Years ago I wanted to have a phone with solar cells because it seemed like a neat idea and somewhat environmental. Now I read that there are probably no worse phones for the environment than those with solar cells on them, as they are ineffective and require a lot of energy to produce, resulting in a lot of greenhouse gases...

You could buy one of those solar cell-powered phone chargers, which are more efficient and also useful for other mobile electronics.
