The secret is to go on off hours when it is not so busy. Go when most kids are in school or go closer to the closing time when it tends to be pretty empty.
I will say that a small number of CEC locations do not maintain their stores as well as they should, but the vast majority are very clean and nice places to visit. Go back to your local CEC. It may be a lot nicer than you remember it.
