Some of the ones I've seen in the mall are okay while they're running, but when they're in the shadows and turned off, you can put me right in the camp that thinks they're creepy. I can never trust turned-off ones to really be off or really be rooted to their positions.

I don't get why people find animatronics creepy. They are just like big stuffed animals that move and sing. They are beautiful. Maybe people just don't like robots.

I love robots. G1 Transformers robots that are clearly made of metal and that have unambiguous intentions (whether those intentions are good or bad, you know what they're about pretty darn quickly). Other kinds of robots that are either obviously robots or made to look human and pull it off well don't bother me either.

The animatronics I've seen come off like they're just pretending to be fluffy and innocent so that you'll let your guard down and then they can come up behind you and FNaF you when you least expect it. They manage to uncanny valley humankind, stuffed-animalkind, and robotkind all at once. Maybe it's that triple whammy that does it. It seems as if what I'm looking at must really be something else altogether...something trying SO hard to look like what its spies told it humans would feel safe around...

What are the better ones? Showbiz Pizza was arguably better but it closed down in the early 90's. If you visit a Chuck E. Cheese with an animatronic show that has three stages (one big stage in the middle and two smaller off to each side) it was once a Showbiz Pizza.

My house for one. I can play arcade games on the computer, buy the toys I need, and order as many pizzas as I want to.

Going to have to disagree, it is a good way to play games if you don't have the original hardware anymore and the older the system we're talking about, the more likely available emulators for it will be more or less perfected with some exceptions. A PS2 emulator will be hard to run perfectly for a lot of games but a Super Nintendo one for example, runs practically flawlessly. New computers are better every year, so it becomes progressively easier to run what was considered a graphically intense game 5 or more years ago. Even if your PC has budget hardware specs.

Fair point. I'm just kind of purist. I like to run stuff off the original hardware.

Animatronics aren't actually dangerous. Most are fragile enough kids can break them just by pulling on them when they move. I think of them as just stuffed animals with robot parts inside.

I think FNAF made people scared of animatronics.

Spoke to my uncle who used to work at the local Chuck E. Cheese. Apparently one ofcthe big reasons the local one closed down was poor maintenance of the animatronics. People stopped coming because the voices and sound effects didn't 100% sync up with the motions/jaw flappings of the animatronics, so it looked equal parts pathetically slapstick and disturbingly creepy.

Also the whole shebang just kind of sucked.

That is one of the big issues with the animatronics. When they are kept up they are amazing. When they are left to rot they don't look nearly as good.

I don't think it sucks.
