At least your friends didn't subject you to a torrent of abuse for not voting for the SNP...

Seriously, I leave the UK for 14 months and its all gone to shit.

All through the night. Sunderland is generally first, and that'll come out at about 11-11;:30...however they measure the labour vote in kilograms rather than actual votes.

Generally, the first results come from safe Labour seats in the Northeast of England - with the Sunderland seats actively competing to declare first.

The bulk of results, however, will likely be declared between 4:00am and 10:00am.

A few stragglers in large rural seats and closely contested seats where recounts are necessary might not come in until the afternoon of the 8th.

Edit:

Here are some estimates for declaration times:

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/05 ... 20642.html

We won't start getting a decent picture until c. 2:00 am.

If you think Nick Clegg might lose, you'll likely have to wait until 4:30 am.

Thanks. I guess I will hear about it in the morning paper in the US.

My town has been an active hunting ground for UKIP. However, they picked a terrible candidate, one that conforms to the stereotype they've been trying to avoid. It'll likely remain a Labour seat, as it has been for decades

I'm not old enough. If I was, I'd vote Labour on a leadership basis, even though my idealogies would have me vote Liberal Democrat. Were I still on the country come next election, it'd be them.

Vote cast, polling station was basically empty - but it was in the middle of the afternoon when parents are picking up their children from school so probably normal.

What seat are you in?

Greater Grimsby. It's been held by Labour MP Austin Mitchell since the 80s, IIRC. He's retiring though.

Interesting that the highest number on the poll so far is UKIP. Any idea why that is?

I imagine that it is a combination of the following factors.

(1. British teens on the Internet seem to support UKIP and almost obsess over Nigel.
(2. NSG has seen an influx of right wingers, nationalists, etc.
(3. Puppet wankery.
(4. Americans.

As for me, I'm one of those right wing nationalists who voted UKIP.

The nationalist True Finns party in Finland gets most of it's votes from former Social Democrat voters and young people. Nationalism in the youth seems to be growing in Europe.
