Honestly, GMOs are a mixed bag. While medically they're fine, GMO crops have disrupted farming systems that were perfected over thousands of years in Asia, and are responsible for farmer's suicides in India. However, I'd say that's the doing of the people marketing these GMOs.

Correlation does not equal causation. Currently we don't know what causes autism. Currently though, research suggests that genetic factors are predominant.

Doesn't mean multiple factors can influence something. I've seen a lot of autistic people on NSG talking about relatives experiencing similar problems, so genetics is a likely factor.

However, autism may very well be like cancer in the sense that both genetics and what the body is exposed to can influence it.

Paywall. The summary though does show it to be based on study of methylmercury and to be from 2007. Since then it's been discovered that ethylmercury is less neurotoxic even than that.

Ethylmercury being what thiomersal degrades to in the body.

Parents seriously concerned about mercury poisoning would be better advised to avoid fluorescent lights than to avoid vaccines. Particularly since vaccines don't have thiomersal nowdays.
