She was seemingly arrested only after the protesters started hounding the police for not arresting her at first, then she was released with no charges.

I think Risottia was correct to call it "robbery" rather than "theft". They're subtly different, but robbery involves a confrontation, use of force, or threat of force. Whereas picking a pocket or stealing an unattended car would more properly be called theft.

This was blatant. And though at first she may have thought she was rescuing someone else's property (eg, the United States' property) it becomes clearly robbery when she is instructed by police to drop it and held on.

I'm done for the day. This will probably be my last word on the subject: I don't think swearing at a cop should be a crime. I think the crime of robbery is very slight when you take the thing with no attempt at subterfuge and no physical threats, only to prevent it being destroyed. And stupid shit that happens on campus should stay on campus unless anyone but the police wants to press charges.

No, she doesn't. Desecration of the flag is a constitutionally protected form of expression. Using violence to stop people from exercising their rights is never appropriate, and the fact that you would do so as a member of the armed forces says that you are a disgrace to your service. You swore an oath to defend the constitution, you should consider trying to abide by your oath.

Yep, if you're fighting for the flag rather than the ideas it is supposed to represent, then you're not really fighting for America, but rather against it. This is how Dya and myself view things.... and how many other veterans I know do as well. Those figthing for the flag in opposition to what it should be standing for are performing the absolute worst form of desecration. I'd just as soon watch a crack head wipe his ass with a UIS flag, than to see it associated with the ideas of people who would seek to outlaw free expression.

I take oaths seriously, and the oath of enlistment has you swear to defend the constitution, not the flag.

I personally frown on desecrating the flag and would most likely never do it, but I recognize that it is a protected form of expression.
