And they're not letting you move out?

Out of curiosity, which country doesn't were you planning to move to once they give you your passport?

Really? We're going to use the, "If you don't like this country then leave" argument. This is my home. Home is not the place that matches your ideologies exactly, it's the place you stay in to try to make it the best it can be. And I do not deserve to be made to feel I'm the one that needs to leave when this country has been fucked since the day the constitution was made with a majority thinking, "Slavery is cool, women shouldn't vote and the electoral college makes sense."

I don't get Americans who get so upset with protesters when literally protesters have always been the people fighting to make this country better. Protesters are a greater good to our country then any army.

Yeah, those groups all said "This is not ideal and it needs to change" not "This place fucking sucks, everybody is a douche". Check your approach.

Neither of which are the topic on hand, but that we have racist individuals is a silly reason to hate the country entirely.

Indeed it is, however, hating the country for silly reasons isn't illegal. (Yes, I realize you weren't saying it was or should be).

I don't recall a single gay rights protest that made the take-home point that "EVERYBODY IS A DOUCHE!". Neither an abolitionist's writings.

That said, this isn't the topic. Lets bring it back on, yeah?

Okay we're going to go on a magical time journey back to when we had slaves and see them say "This is not ideal and it needs to change" as they fight for their freedom.

Nope. Its about an Air Force vet arrested for trying to stop a flag desecration.

I was talking about formal protests. What you say among yourselves does not meet the general criteria for a formal and public protest.

I mean, if I was writing an essay I would be more eloquent, but for shorthand forum arguing, "oppressors are douchebags" sum up decent peoples feelings quickly and accurately.

Then perhaps we misunderstood each other. Sorry about that. Nonetheless, you'll get further with reasoned critiques instead of resorting to namecalling, especially on these forums.

It's not 'illegal' to desecrate the flag that so many have given their lives to protect, support and defend. Nor should it be: they, WE, fought to give them that right....

On the other hand, those who show such disrespect and contempt should be proud of themselves, proud to be identified and held up to public scrutiny. And THAT, my friend, is the rub! They are not 'proud' of themselves or anything else! They're gutless cowards and the moment they thought that those pictures might be used against them in some way....

Having these pictures, or any pictures "used against them" is also totally not what the constitution is about and their rights should protect them against such acts.

Considering the act of desecrating a flag is considered the same as any other legal form of expression, I'm not sure how the history of the veteran makes any significant difference to the hypocrisy.

Calling someone out on desecrating a national symbol when you yourself have profited off desecrating a national symbol is hypocrisy, legal or not. It also adds to the douchery inherent in the act, per the landmark Supreme Court ruling United States v. 'Murrican Mud Wrestling, Inc.

My thought is that it is a simple piece of cloth, and you should be able to "desecrate" it as much as you should be able to "desecrate" a common kitchen towel.
