But as for being tonsured a reader, I'd say go for it. It's a good way to increase your commitment to God and the Church without making any sort of major decision about your life.

Becoming a deacon is another matter, of course. That would mean actually getting ordained into the major orders of the clergy, and permanently committing yourself to a special role in the Church. I still think it may be your calling, and I advise you to consider it - not "go for it", but consider it. Talk to people about it. Ask your priest, or other priests, or deacons that you know.

The only reason I'm not considering it myself is because it's not proper for ordained clergy to be involved in political matters. Ordained clergy speak for the Church, and that means they need to maintain political neutrality in their public capacity (though they may, of course, hold strong political opinions in private). So, to be ordained, I would need to commit myself to political neutrality in my public life. And I cannot do that. Not at this stage in my life, at least. I strongly feel that my calling is political. But perhaps some day, when I approach the age of retirement, I will be ready to give up politics, and at that time I may consider pursuing ordination.

Yeah...for similar reasons as you as well as a few others. I'm too...how to put it..."vulgar and profane" to be a priest. I have a foul mouth and I wouldn't have the necessary discipline for it.

If God is calling you to be a priest, He will ensure you gain the discipline for it.

Exactly, a pastor in a Lutheran church twenty minutes away from my area used to be a gangster in the past. Mind you, he has massive tattoos on his back.

But, Orthodox priests have at times held political office, such as the prince-bishops that ruled Montenegro for over a century, or the more recent example of Makarios III, who was simultaneously primate & president of Cyprus. How exactly were exceptions like this allowed? I'm not trying to be controversial, but I'm genuinely curious how exactly that occurred.

On another note, I'm wondering what's preventing the (Orthodox) Church from canonizing people outside the religion has saints?

There are a number of saints who never adhered to the Christian religion. They're all old testament is all.

Could you canonize Rabbi Judah the Prince as a saint? He was a man who fed the poor, clothed the naked, and welcomed the stranger. However, Rabbi Judah the Prince also denied the trinity, denied the Eucharist, and denied the salvation of Jesus.

Well the person I had in mind specifically that made me wonder this was Joan of Arc (alternative spellings be many). She did nothing to oppose the Orthodox Church and Catholics are Christians so why not? Or the boy that led the last stand of the Christians in Japan before they went underground completely?

You're example would make me think on it however.

So for a foreign saint:
Beliefs were in line with the Orthodox Church.
Existed simultaneously with the Orthodox Church.
Is deserving of Sainthood.

Is this correct?

If this is the case, then your question is answered.

There is no one who is not deserving of sainthood who is not a saint. According to the Orthodox Church.
