The History Channel was going downhill before that show came on. In 2006, for instance, they spent the entirety of the 6th of June talking about the number 666, including some bullshit about highway 666.

The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to encourage settlement of all habitable worlds in the Galaxy and perhaps the Universe by the human race;
to ensure that human rights are respected, with force if necessary, and that all nations recognize the inevitable and unalienable rights of all human beings regardless of their individual and harmless differences, or Idiosyncrasies;
to represent the interests of all humankind to other sapient species;
to protect all humanity and its’ colonies from unneeded violence or danger;
to promote technological advancement and scientific achievement for the happiness, knowledge and welfare of all humans;
and to facilitate cooperation in the spheres of law, transportation, communication, and measurement between nation-states.

The channel barely has anything to do with history anymore. Like, "Swamp People"? Where's the historical basis to that?

Eh, well, some people do get their superstitions get in the way of their daily lives. I live in a town where people, do this day, the 21st century, do not adopt black cats. I'll let you think about that. The humane society in this town has even gone so far as to lower the adoption fees to $20-$25 (when the regular fee is around $50 for other cats) just so that the poor felines can get a home.

That's tremendously stupid. It almost makes me wonder if the NS issues about more than half the population consulting horoscopes might be useful as a guide for government policy in real life. Have any of the cats gotten a home, or are people still too scared of them?

Some of the black cats do get homes, but honestly, their adoption rates is way lower than that of other cats in the shelter.

Maybe it's something to do with a cultural trope, or the phonaesthetics of the words.
The United Colonies of Earth exists:
to encourage settlement of all habitable worlds in the Galaxy and perhaps the Universe by the human race;

I'd always wanted a Scottish Fold, but I've come around to adopting from a shelter. It seems better that way, to get one who already needs a home.
