Which is why I'd say yes ma'am or no ma'am to you, you're older than I and that's how I was raised.

The nursery director at my church was 23 and told me many times not to call her ma'am when assisting in the nursery on my assigned Sundays. She eventually gave up since I was raised that way and it only meant respect for an authority figure. I was only a volunteer in the nursery and she was the director. Respectfully calling her ma'am only made sense

My best friend's boyfriend won't buy her her feminine products when she's on her period. Why do straight guys seem to fear tampons and the like? You go to the aisle, pick up the tampons, and get some chocolate bars at the register. Gees, it's easy.

I don't. I fear going to the register.

It's an odd aversion, yeah. I've managed to convince my partner that the box isn't swarming with cooties, but it was an uphill battle.

If my mother asked me to buy tampons for her, I'd lock myself in the cellar so I don't have to.

Why?

I was hanging out with a few friends today, and in the grand tradition of brilliant teenagers, I made a wonderfully dirty joke. I was keeling over:

"So, <Me>, how'd you get a girlfriend?" <Friend 1 asks>
"Well, I guess I'm a cunning linguist." <Me replies>
<Friends 2-4 burst out laughing>
<Friend 1 doesn't get it>
<Poor Friend 1>

Maybe it's out of my own experiences only, but I've been able to have far more meaningful conversation with my female friends than my "bros". I have yet to find someone to open up to completely, partly because I'm afraid I'll come across as a sad, wounded puppy, but of the few times I've cried in the presence of someone else it was always with my female friends.

Sometimes it feels that my male pride is what kept me from opening the cork on this bottle and resulted in my visit to the psychiatrist. Be a man. Don't show them you're hurting, jada jada.
