They have not.

Yes, they have not. Having a socialist president doesn't mean 1) USSR 2: Electric Proletariat 2) actually developing into a socialist society.

The Dems would win 75 seats in the senate and 350 in the House if that happened.

Nor have they nationalised everything or demanded that all business be run by worker's councils.

If you don't know already, the Socialist party of France has never been Socialist, they're social democrats. And now as the leftist policies of the Hollande government fail, and the government begins to backpedal, Blairite centrists are hopping on board(see Manuel Valls).

To be fair he's pretty spot on. Sanders is a self-proclaimed socialist and that alone would turn a number of independents and even a number of democrats against voting for him.

Plus Sanders is better suited to the Senate. The US needs him there far more than it does in the White House.

Actually I have been reading that the majority of young people in America look at Socialism positively, so it's really possible that society is moving to the left.

Shocking that you belittle your opponent with cheerleading.

I would never say "never". Just like the Labour party they were socialist but more slow reformed focused (the original meaning of social democrat). Mitterand even implemented a number of socialist inspired reforms back in the early 80's, when the SP won for the first time. They didn't go as planned and as the post-war consensus broke down, drifted more towards the Third Way and/or the new parameters of social democracy.

Last time I checked it was a plurality not majority. Lets also not forget that there is a massive libertarian streak among young people as well. There's also the fact that I suspect what many think of as "socialism" is mainly "doing it like the Europeans do it". Which ranges from France's dirigisme, Germany's social market economy, the UK's "Third Way", the Nordic model, etc.

All of which are also rather capitalist.

Yeah, but from my knowledge Mitterand himself moved much more to the right when his bank nationalisation plan or whatever didn't work.

Sanders calls himself a democratic socialist. If he was just a plain socialist, he'd join the Socialist Party.

As far as I can tell he's never been a member. Elected mayor of Burlington as an independent, later joined the Liberty Union party. Founded the Vermont Progressive Party and later the Progressive caucus. Not the Socialist Party though.

Even then, they are still further to the left than America, which is a start.

Plus iirc what he considers socialism is the just Nordic model (which already has a number of variations among the Nordic countries).

Bonus points most Americans support the level of income distribution in the Nordic countries.
