Massachusetts Special Election Thread

Postby Neo Art » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:20 pm

Mod Edit: This has now become our thread for talking about this election (Congrats, NeoArt ;) ), any further comments about it goes here. Let me also remind everyone that the usual US electorial "No gloating, trolling, or trollbaiting" rules are in full force, for both sides. -NS Mod Team

Since I'm here in Boston, I'm getting updates on local news pretty much as it comes, so I'll be doing some updates as they come in.

With 4% of the vote reporting, it's:

Brown 52%
Coakley 47%

I'm pretty much expecting that to be the final result - advantage Brown.

Between the Massachusetts election coverage and Haiti coverage, the rest of the world has apparently come to a screeching halt. They just seem to bounce back and forth between the two.

Don't forget the occasional small sidetrack to Afghanistan. ;)

Now lets see if the Democrats can retain their filibuster-proof Congress.

with 7% in its:

Brown 51%
Coakley 48%

keep in mind that later reporting will, I THINK, tend to favor Coakley as, purely anecdotal, it appears that more urban communities tend to favor her much more, and I imagine that they're a little slower getting things organized, as the more urban polling centers are busier

11% in and it's

Brown 53%
Coakley 46%

big bump for Brown there.

Fox are already spinning Brown's 'win' as a referendum on Obama.

They're calling an election this close with seven percent in? Seven fucking percent?
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

They were calling it before the numbers started coming in.

They're actually backpeddled a bit now there are real numbers.

Looks like Brown might accually pull off an upset. This could potentially be a rather important election.

I don't know, normally when I watch elections like this, by 10% you're generally pretty steady on in, especially where it's as wide as 6%,

How depressing.

It's starting to look that way, though I'd prefer that she pulls a come from behind victory.
