Which two of these character traits?

Postby The Parkus Empire » Tue Jan 19, 2010 2:00 pm

Out of these character traits, which two do you most admire: courage, a sense of humor and ethics?

I would like to make it clear for purposes of this discussion that I know that someone truly ethical has to have some degree of courage, but the courage I speak of includes the ability to tell someone he's an asshole if he is (not on this forum, obviously). Also, for argument's sake, let's assume intelligence is a trait thrown-in with each combination.

A sense of humor and ethics. That way if someone's not all that brave they can still rip the piss out of whoever's a prick and shrug it off as "just a joke" while getting that crap out of their system.

Edit: Mods, please change thread and poll title to: "Which two of these character traits"?

Courage and ethics.

A sense of humour is nice, but not necessarily 'admirable' - whereas the combination of courage and ethics means a person that will do the right thing - rather than bravely erring or knowing the right thing but failing to do it.

Not to the person's face, that would take social courage. The guy might still make jokes behind the offender's back, though.

A sense of humor and ethics. While I do admire courage, I don't think the example of courage given in the OP is particularly a good thing, so I will not skew the poll by picking it.

It isn't, necessarily. Courage without ethics might lead to robbery, and ethics with courage could lead to other trouble, like defending someone's honor.

A sense of humor and ethics. When the shit hits the fan, a true coward can talk their way out of anything and having these attributes helps immensely. I mean, just look at me.

Courage and a sense of humour.

Ethics aren't really required so long as you have morals. ;)

Courage is not something I admire. For me it is silly, or bluntly idiotic.

Cowardice in the right time is something I do admire.

Courage could be defined as running away without fear of losing face should the situation warrant it.

Well, no, not really. I am somewhat courageous, and I've hit people that pissed me off before, and it was stupid. :(

But it felt really good.

Yes, indeedy, not being concerned about others' opinion. It doesn't mean one has to be stupid.

Courage, since it's the one I don't have, and sense of humour, since without one people are boring.

It's possible for me to admire unethical people, for the same reason that this trope exists.
