It depends on the state. Weed is legal in Michigan, although I think this girl was on something more than weed. She was a damn space cowgirl. This chick was so high that she forgot which side of the mall she was even on and just sat in Lulu Lemon till we found her and Darren. Here in the states, the penalty for being caught with drugs has been dramatically reduced ever since the heroin epidemic struck. With all the junkies wandering the streets, police find drugs on you and just shake their heads. Dutuerte seems to think hes the galaxy brain for killing off all the druggies to end an epidemic but it isn't that easy. Drug abuse is related to larger societal issues such as poverty and depression. Alot of folks in my generation see no future for themselves and so they turn to drugs to forget their issues. This girl for example came from the edge of town and grew up in a broken home. Her dad left her at 3 weeks old. She was raised in a household that made around $30,000 a year. That's not alot of money when you got several kids. Her whole life is violence and isolation, and behind that smile and those green eyes is a broken individual who doesn't see anything lying ahead of them except a chaotic, nameless void. We had a chat recently and I told her get your shit together. She was kinda surprised but I said that I really was worried for her, and would be very hurt if something awful happened to her. The story of walking into a pizza hut in detroit half naked was funny at first, but now I realize that this isn't just some stoner witch I'm dealing with. Life is killing this girl slowly and painfully, and if someone doesn't grow a dick and step in, she wont live to see 24 years old.

I know that many of you in the philippines think America is the promised land but it really isn't. Theres alot of problems here, and alot of hardship, and many of us live day to day worrying that we're gonna end up in a tent out on the street, or end up being murdered or getting the call that someone we really cared about took their own life. The streets here aren't paved in gold. They're dirty and dark.
