Also, apparently Berliner also means jelly doughnut in German. My friend told me this; so I could just be gullible.
It does in some parts of Germany. Bavaria, from memory, but that might well be wrong.

Times like this, the only thing keeping him alive is I'm not yet entitled to the life insurance payout.

Isn't it 10°C in the big islands off the Atlantic coast of Western Europe?
This isn't really cold.

I mean, yes, I was around 9 at the time so I likely wouldn't be able to handle it, but still. Another side of me is very happy that they did this for him. It will be comforting to know he'll always be close, I guess. Or at least, as close as his ashes can get. Since I'm going to their house this weekend, I think they're going to show me the urn then. And I'm probably going to have a large emotional breakdown. But I'll be happy knowing I'll be surrounded by my family, and we'll all be able to share the grief.

In fairness, I don't think anybody would explain the specifics of how a person's remains were handled to a nine year old, especially cremation. Had you thought he was buried somewhere?

At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

Oh goodness. When I lived in dad's apartment in Stockholm he had the window open the whole year round.
In Sweden.

I don't even remember now. I knew the concepts of cremation and burying. They never told me anything, so I really don't know. The thing is, I wasn't even told how he died. I don't want to live the rest of my life knowing my father died without even finding out how. Even if it was something embarrassing like genital mutilation I'd still want to know.
