Ipx was more efficient than ip, gossip was suppose to be the osi model, ip6 is too big of a pain in the ass to do. Middle ground is hard to find.

That reminds me of the documentary about the Washington DC punk/hardcore scene I saw yesterday, Salad Days. In the late seventies the first punk rockers started appearing in the streets of Washington, which agitated certain redneck types so much that they literally stopped their car in order to beat up a teenager whose appearance didn't fit their extremely limited view of the world. It's a kind of primitive and hostile behaviour that has been around for thousands of years.
