Well given the geographic location of the United States (having access to both major Oceans), being a major commerce center and having a vast wealth of natural resources, And the fiercely competitive American nature (in my experience at least). The US won't obviously remain number 1 forever but i feel that it will always be relevant in some manner. No one does anything out of the goodness of their heart, there is always an ulterior motive. (Agreeing with you)
That, and in my personal opinions, the deepest reasons for a country to do anything can be explained as one of three things:
- To become stronk and relevant
- To stay stronk and relevant
- To keep another nation from becoming stronk or relevant
