We're best off working with the EU where our influence is combined with theirs. As for naval powers, you do know that NATO thinking in the Cold War relegated us to being the main anti-submarine force for the GIUK gap? When your whole alliance is relying on you to stop Soviet boomers getting into the Atlantic, you tend to focus on that to the detriment of other things.

We're best off working with the EU where our influence is combined with theirs.
