No, America does that because it has different strategic requirements to literally everyone else. it has defence agreements in the far east, the middle east, and Europe. For this, it needs a capable Navy to fight other navies, deploy air power and secure shipping routes with which to achieve strategic lift capabilities by sea and air to these three regions.

It has this requirement because of its insanely advantageous position in WWII, namely its geographical isolation from major threats and its vast industrial capability.

And Great Britain doesn't have these needs, being the single most influential country of the post-Roman era and the single most influential naval power in history until the early 20th century?

Additionally, because it has only two land borders, one of them allied, and the other friendly it's in position to act as an island nation should it wish to, so it makes sense to have formitable navy.

But that's not the scenario that we're talking about, I am talking about how America should have given full support to Argentina, in which case the Brits would have been thoroughly underequipped.

Well, yeah exactly. We're neither of those now. We're influential, but individually something like the US or China has a bit more weight. We're best off working with the EU where our influence is combined with theirs. As for naval powers, you do know that NATO thinking in the Cold War relegated us to being the main anti-submarine force for the GIUK gap? When your whole alliance is relying on you to stop Soviet boomers getting into the Atlantic, you tend to focus on that to the detriment of other things.

When we say British claims on the antartic are not evidence of a British conspiracy to conquer the universe and shit in everybodies cheerios, that does not mean we are supporting the antartic claims.
