Google had enough when someone tried to hack Gmail accounts of anti-communist Chinese advocates.

"Never be deceived that the rich will permit you to vote away their wealth." - Lucy Parsons
Socialism is an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy. "Social ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, state ownership, citizen ownership of equity, or any combination of these. There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them. They differ in the type of social ownership they advocate, the degree to which they rely on markets or planning, how management is to be organised within productive institutions, and the role of the state in constructing socialism.

Google hardly deserves a bit of praise. Google for years supported and actively participated in the Chinese governments repression of free speech and political dissent. Google is currently cooperating with governments around the world in setting up similar abilities to censor the web. Google is one of the most onerous and intrusive businesses on the web when it comes to privacy.

Oh my god, I can really see how Google is now turning the tide towards free speech, even though it still says "According to local laws, regulations and policies, some search results are not shown". I can also observe that The Epoch Times, very critical of the government, is also in the results.

Until I see some official "Fuck you PRC, with Love from Google," this is pretty shady, about as shady as google's cooperation with certain authoritarian governments on censorship.

Will Australia be the next to prefer censorship over web search access?

as of the 15th of this month Google had been forced to take down some "offensive" websites (those who had complained were applauded here for their heroism http://icnn.com.au/breaking-news/stephe ... y-limited/)

I really don't believe it. Only a few weeks ago, Amnesty International (in chinese: 國際特赦組織) used to be censored from its results. Now it is top of the list.
