Which makes it all the more sad that you believe it. Of course though, you're wrong. This subject has been dealt with and none of it supports a supernatural explanation.

So you essentially believe that a concept which has founded numerous religions, affected the lives of billions and greatly influenced the course of human history is, what, unimportant?

Oh no, it is. I'm just saying that it's on the same level as any other product of fundamental human flaws from a psychological perspective. If anything it's simply a fantastic example of those flaws. It's not important because it has any credibility. It's important because it's an interesting topic of exploration just like attribution errors, cognitive biases, etc.
"The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."—former Nixon domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman

It's important if you're discussing its impact on human societies. That doesn't mean there's a high probability of the afterlife actually existing.
