What is hilarious is that the US continues to use the old Imperial system created by its old English Masters, wereas the rest of us have followed the glorious French revolutionaries and adopted the humanist, anti-royalist Metric system.

Celcius beats Fahrenheit no contest - 0C is freezing water, 3C is a healthy river, 15C is a cool day, 30C is a bloody hot day, 40C is the temperature of my bath, 60C to broil a medium steak, 80C the temperature of my coffee and 100C to boil my potatoes.

Having my bath at 102 and coffee at 175 just seems unnecessarily high

30 seems unnecessarily low for a hot day.

Then learn the bloody metric system. Get familiar with it. Is it really that repulsive to learn something new?

I already know most of it, I think it's better for measurements of height and weight.

But fahrenheit is the superior temp. measuring system.

No, it's not. The Fahrenheit scale is complicated and stupid. Kelvin is probably the best.

I'm a soldier, for example. Why would I go out of my way to learn the intricacies of marine biology if I have no use for it in my life? There's no chance I'll be a marine biologist ever, so why go out of my way to learn everything about it if I'm not gonna use that information AT ALL?

As a soldier I assume you will travel to different countries. Guess what measuring system they use? Hint it starts with m and ends with -etric

furlongs and fortnights are my standards.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

For a start: China wasn't ruled by any European power, and South America got it's independence from Spain and Portugal long before either Spain or Portugal adopted metric.

Obviously you'd have to learn. Or are you going to look a street sign with km on it, and be all like "well... guess I don't need to go there after all"?

China had an open door policy for decades. Dozens of European countries owned key ports across its coastline introducing the metric system.[...]

Firstly, you've addressed just a tiny fraction of my entire post with that, and have seemingly ignored the rest.
Secondly, China didn't begin metrication until 1929. Immediately prior was the revolution that founded the Chinese Republic, an era of Warlordism, and the Chinese civil war (which was ongoing). Immediately after was more of the Chinese Civil War, the Great Depression, and WWII. Chinese markets didn't use Metric even after it was officially introduced - they used the market-use system that was introduced at the same time. The PCR continued the use of the market system, even officially as it decreed in 1959. China's conversion to the metric system remains only partially complete.
Mao's China most certainly did not have an open door policy, so you must be saying that China had an open door policy during the period of Warlordism or civil war - and that somehow a handful of European port cities somehow changed the system of a country as massive as China. Are you sure?

I'll be using inches and miles actually. Since I'm an American soldier after all I'll be using the prevalent system.

well no its seems intuitively rational - I don't want to freeze like I would at 0 or boil like I would at 100, 50C would kill me so I'll settle for a tropical 30

The Kelvin value for room temperature is around 290 K.
I think I prefer Celsius outside of scientific calculations.
