I remember the 90s. Apparently, the 90s are a thing now with the kiddies. '90s kids' can talk about 90s things. Like Vanilla Ice. Who ever would have guessed?
God I feel old.

Oh God. I'm sorry, but the 90's were nothing special enough to be worth remembering. The music was bad, and the movies were mostly subpar. Perhaps the best thing the 90's have going for them is the cartoons. They were stupid, yes, but pretty cool.

90s music are bad if you're not being hipster enough.

The term is meant to refer to those whose childhood memories are from the '90s. So, that's people born in eighties to, well, maybe 1992/3 (even 1994 is too late and speaking from being born in '95, that year definitely is).

If you're born in the nineties, your childhood, for better or for worse, happened mostly in the early 2000s. Which probably means more SpongeBob than Rugrats. Or, as an English teacher of mine put it, Pokémon.

It's possible I've misunderstood, but it makes more sense this way.

I have memories of both (including music, cartoons, festivals, parties, Christmas, beach days!) and I identify as much with the city I spent my first 5 or so years as the one I lived most of my life and in which I live now.

You just envy my mighty precocious toddlerhood.

Mine are from late '92 or early '93. Not that there are many that old ones.

I remember that in the first house I lived, it was in a very steep hill, there was a neighboring palm tree I loved a lot when I lived in my first house (from which I could see an enormous amount of my first city and even a bit of the famous parts of Rio, now it has lots of skyscrapers ruining the view partially), and my dad had the fable that a family of animals lived there.

A beautiful day a thunder struck the tree and it burned down. I cried a lot, very worried with their safety and well-being.

The only thing I'm sure is that I was under 3.

At any rate, the 90s kid has more substantial memories rather than snatching ones (i.e. like you describe). But, at least, with '94 one has started school prior to 2000 (which is, obviously a Big Thing).

I'm from late December 1994.

Granted, I completed two grades in 2000 due to moving to a different city, so I always studied around older people (I was by far the youngest in class when I started high school). Started Jardim II in March, started Classe de Alfabetização (now 1º ano do ensino primário) in August. (And had the best grades, 100% 100%, until the third grade.)

Does kindergarten count as school? I took it as seriously.

I've never understood the obsession with the nineties. I like grunge as much as the next guy, but everything else I think kind of sucked.

There's a twenty year lag on stuff being nostalgic. Come the 2030s people will be all over Gangnam Style's shit again.

True and dismissing the artistic output of an entire decade is a bit arrogant. There were some excellent films in the 1990s. Granted, there hasn't been any really decent music since Mozart died.
