We already talk about it 24/7.

Then clearly there was no need to show it.

So Fox News actually did something I support for once.
By not showing these videos, we are sugarcoating the horrors that they are inflicting upon people.

I wonder if Fox showed stuff like, dunno, Palestinian kids killed by airstrikes, or Iraqis burned by WP weapons... I really wonder.

Um noooo, because airing that doesn't accomplish the ideological narrative they're trying to enforce. Why empathize with the people you're trying to hate?

To be fair, the pilot was a devout muslim. So i'm surprised fox would even allow something that suggests that not all muslims are terrorists on the air.

Sure there was.
I can discuss something awful at length, and while you may cognitively understand it's a terrible thing, emotionally it might not hit home.
Your response will be muted.

"Well sure Isis is evil and all, but its not really any of our business to do anything about it."
then watch the clips of their actions and the pleas of their victims.
Then try saying it so flippantly.

There is a difference between intellectual understanding and emotional understanding.

Which is why we call the latter sensationalism.

For sure.

This shows us that they aren't actually applying Islamic law, but instead a law of their own. This is probably why The Islamic authorities of the Miiddle East are condemning their actions.

I can. It's part of the War on Christmas, which is one of the four wars they've fought with a pen.

Yeah, I forgot it's baby steps with Fox...

True, though it is also true what Saiwania says, they didn't show it over the air, just made it available on their web site. That's their call.

I'm adamantly against them having showed it. It doesn't matter where they showed it (and that the "images might be disturbing for some viewers" was never my contention). Some things are outside of the scope of respectable journalism and airing videos like that is one of them.

I am under the impression that watching the video would be an offence in the UK. Will be interesting if people get prosecuted for looking at the Fox News website.

I don't know...I watched it because who the fuck needs mental health? And I have a very different understanding now of just how horrific burning a person to death is.

I think it's a lot like Ostro said, I understood on an intellectual level that it was bad but seeing it changed my understanding.

I make it a point not to watch Fox News. I find them distasteful. I don't think showing that video was a good idea. Feels like they're making the death of that young man into ratings gains.

Right but they didn't show it on TV, they hosted the video on their website.

Why would it be? I've watched it and not had the boys in blue booting down the door.

Just want to note that burning people alive isn't actually unheard of within Islam, it comes from the jurisprudence of Ibn Taymiyya who was an authority on Islam within his lifetime. Here is a direct quote attributed to him: "So if horror of commonly desecrating the body is a call for them to believe, or to stop their aggression, it is from here that we carry out the punishment and the allowance for legal Jihad." The aim of this of course, is to try to intimidate people into converting to Islam through sheer terror or to lower the morale of non-Muslims fighting against an invading Muslim army.

The ISIS people are following this verse in the Qur'an: “So whoever has assaulted you, then assault him in the same way that he has assaulted you.” When targets are bombed by coalition airstrikes, some ISIS members get burned alive instantaneously. So from their perspective, they are in fact carrying out something condoned by Islamic scripture.

They are not going to stop there, I can predict that ISIS will bring back the Ottoman punishment of Khazouk, which was the driving of spikes through a victim's rectum.

Same thing applies, minus the ratings perhaps. I make a point to avoid anything Fox News. I find them disgusting.

Any reporting on the topic should have contained the video.
Good on Fox for doing so, whatever their intentions were.

Yeah, I agree. Terrible decision. Playing right into the hands of ISIS.

Hardly, because it doesn't achieve any of the goals set by IS other than the shock value of knowing it was done.
Which was achieved without showing the footage anyway.
