Ah, that might be Super Paper Mario. They were originally RPG games, and they were fantastic. Originally on N64, then on Gamecube. Very good games.

To be fair, the acting isn't bad and location-wise, the production went all out. Quite stunning. I think my issue is that I have gotten fed up with certain portrayals and my show watching has been affected.

The first 3 books were great. 4 and 5 not so much.
