Hershey managed to keep Cadbury products from entering the US on the argument of protecting it's rights to make Cadbury products with their own recipes and that some of the wrapping matched their version.

I sorry but Hershey's wrappers taste better then their products. As was mentioned in the article the first ingredient in the Cadbury version is milk. The first ingredient in the Hershey version is sugar.

Hershey uses preservatives to increase shelf life. Isn't that hint there is something wrong with the recipe?

How dare they block that famous shade of purple. Its a really nice shade of colour in an otherwise over-saturated sea of grey we call advertisement.

I don't hate Hershey's, but this sucks. Cadbury and their products are just flat out better, and now I won't be able to get them.

Cadburys are now owned by an American company anyway, who are breaking all the guarantees they made in order to be allowed to buy the company, so fuck Kraft.

This is stupid. I can't say I'm very surprised that Hershey would do something like this, though.

Looks like Cadbury got choc blocked.

Hersheys chocolate isn't actually legally recognised as Chocolate in the UK or the Eu, it's "candy" largely due to it's low amount of cocoa solids.

In the UK, chocolate must contain at least 20% cocoa solids, now Cadburies has 22/23 percent cocoa, which is on the low side in the UK, Hersheys has 11 percent.

Now the 20% threshold is actually very low on a world wide scale, other countries in Europe like Belgium, Switzerland, have their weakest milk chocolate bars at a minimum of 40% cocoa.

I ate a Hersheys candy bar a few months ago, as they're sold in the USA section of my local Tesco's, I actually vomited it was so sugary.

My local factory was the only one that was in favour of Kraft coming in because they said that they'd stop the closure and everyone would keep their jobs.

The factory is currently being refitted as flats.

...what, how does that even work. Hershey produces 'Cadbury' chocolate under license...how can they actually sue the people who own the name to stop them from selling their product in the US?

Why doesn't Cadbury (Kraft) just refuse to renew the license?

Anyway, Hershey's is utterly vile stuff; an American friend swore by it, and offered me a piece, which tasted like vomit. I asked her if it was out of date. It wasn't. I'm not surprised an American company fears a superior foreign product owned by another American company (i.e. Kraft) and has taken steps to try and mitigate potential damage. However, quite a lot of consumers seem very upset by this, so in the long run it may damage Hershey's reputation and sales. However, we shall just have to wait and see. In the meantime, I'm glad I'm in a country where the ordinary chocolate is actually decent.

...no? All that suggests is that their products probably have a longer shelf life than Cadbury's... especially if they have larger quantities of sugar, since sugar doesn't spoil easily.

The articles don't make clear; was this a court case, or did Hershey and L.B.B. come to a business deal? Because if so, it can hardly be called 'blocking'. It would be more like bribing.

I buy giant Hershey Special Dark bars from time to time to serve as a vehicle to scoop peanut butter out of a jar and apply it to my face hole. It is essentially a chocolaty cracker. I would never eat Hershey's chocolate solo.

Had I access to better chocolate for similar price, I would be quite pleased.

I thought it wasn't bad. Didn't really notice a difference.
Actually tasted like a less sugary Yorkie bar.

Well at least they have just admitted that given the choice nobody would buy their imitation.

Then it's somewhere in between. L.B.B. decided to take a bribe to avoid a chance of losing a court ruling as that may affect more than their chocolate products. They decided the risk wasn't worth the reward.

I don't want to judge anybody, but both companies suck.

What it implies is their product has a shorter shelf life than Cadbury products, hence why they have to add preservatives.
