Happy Australia Day!

Today is January the 26th (in Australia). This means it is Australia Day, the national holiday of Australia. It is celebrated because today, in 1788, The first fleet landed in Port Jackson and proclaimed the colony of New South Wales for Great Britain, and thus the beginnings of Australia commenced.

So this thread is to celebrate the national day of Australia, as I promised to create in the July the 4th thread. Discuss what you would like to do today in celebration (please just don't go say nothing, if you have nothing to contribute don't say anything), whether you are listening to the hottest 100 or not, who do you think will win. Most of all, just have a happy Australia Day!

The Queen of Australia happens to share a body with the Queen of Great Britain. How does that make us a "British puppet"?

Yeah, but it's a seperate monarchy. There is the monarchy of Britain and the monarchy of Australia. They may have the same monarch, but they are separate.

Er, this might be just me, but wouldn't a more appropriate date be the one where Australia got independence, rather than the one where they turned the land into a giant prison after they subjugated the indigenous.?

Oh yeah, it's Australia Day today. I had forgotten since I don't celebrate it.

In my opinion. Australia Day is a racist, colonialist and imperialist holiday. It celebrates the British invasion of Australia, and the mass persecution and mistreatment of the Indigenous Australians. I cannot celebrate a thing like that.
