I've seen their menu. Calling it Australian cuisine is laughable, half that stuff isn't eaten here.

I know, and that is why we should not celebrate it.
Would you also celebrate the Holocaust, just because it happened? No, you wouldn't. Just because a historical event occurred, does not mean you should celebrate it, especially if it is a massive human rights violation and crime against humanity.
Dazchan wrote:Ardoki wrote:Oh yeah, it's Australia Day today. I had forgotten since I don't celebrate it.
In my opinion. Australia Day is a racist, colonialist and imperialist holiday. It celebrates the British invasion of Australia, and the mass persecution and mistreatment of the Indigenous Australians. I cannot celebrate a thing like that.
Yeah, Aboriginals tend to find the date offensive, referring to the holiday as Invasion Day. My main issue with Australia Day is that January 26 is irrelevant to the history of 5/6 of the country. Unfortunately, with the date of the founding of Australia being January 1, there aren't a lot of dates that would work.
We could go with December 20, Menzies' Brithday
Ardoki wrote:Hyfling wrote:All that really happened on Australia Day was the arrival of the First Fleet. The actual persecution and slaughter didn't happen until a few years later, initially, the Europeans and Aboriginals got along quite well.
If the First Fleet (or any other fleet) never arrived, there would not have been the genocide and persecution.

Also, It should be "in the Outback"? But to answer the question, most events will be happening in the cities, rather than the Outback.
*seeing as I'm fairly confident you're American, I'll make this easy for you: That was sarcasm.

*Australian cuisine is people!
