Well Wales has been part of England for 700 years (some parts nearly 1000). If after 700 years you still feel you are different what's another 700 years and feeling Roman?

So you believe that by being independent, you are going to avoid the mistakes and the crappy politicians that the UK has? You're going to avoid all the pitfalls and other things that you seem to be against?
The truth is that you won't escape them. You'll still get the shitty politicians, the pitfalls and other problems not to mention new problems associated with newly independent states. And the decisions made there will still cause consequences for yourself and future generations.

There is of course a difference between being ruled by the English, sharing a government with England, and actually being a part of England. No, I don't want to be Roman, or British; I want to be what I am. I do not want people expecting me to be something else.
Rather like us being European.

Yes, I can be. What is annoying is that I am expected to be that even though Britishness does not appeal to me.The Nihilistic view wrote:Pesda wrote:There is of course a difference between being ruled by the English, sharing a government with England, and actually being a part of England. You can be what you are as well as being British.
Since Britain is also a geographical area you would still be British even with independence.Rather like us being European.

No, I believe there will be fewer and less stupid mistakes, and fewer crappy politicians. For example, fewer Tories.

Of course. What I don't like is the British nationality being forced on me.

After all labour is running the devolved powers so well... Please remind me what state the Welsh NHS is in?
Please remind me how much of the Welsh government's budget is being cut. The Labour in Wales is crap but they're less crappy than the Westminster Tories.

Depends what you think of by Britishness. When I think of Britishness I think of four countries which have lead the world in so many things good and bad. I think of our individual unique cultures that give our Island nation it's unique character, I don't think of one thing or way that is Britishness.

Budget cuts are necessary, and just because Wales is a devolved area doesn't mean they shouldn't have their funding cut like England's is.

Because the privatisation of the Royal Mail proved to be more than just an excuse to flog off a public body for cheap, right?
At significantly less than it was worth, and now it also seems to need subsidisation...

What's not pleasant about my view? I support keeping people alive and healthy, housed and educated and forcing them to get a job, be it on minimum wage cleaning a McDonalds if it's needed to take them off benefits. If people aren't taking a job because they are better off on benefits, there is something wrong in the system.

yeah because private corporations should increase their wages just for the purpose of comforting a couple of lazy arses
on the other side the more i read these type of conversations the less sympathetic I am to the "hard-times" people have currently on benefits. maybe it will be an incentive to get work.
